Verizon Wireless Latino Small Business Awards
The Verizon Wireless Latino Small Business Awards were held at the South Gate Girls Club House in South Gate Park on June 11th. The event was hosted by the South Gate Chamber of Commerce and gave an opportunity for Verizon Wireless to award Latino owned small businesses in the Southeast and Orange County areas. In South Gate, two women were selected for their hard effort, Sylvia Calderon, owner of Chapinlandia Market, and Maria Prieto, owner of Vanity Style Beauty Salon, each won $2500 in cash and $2500 in Verizon Wireless product and service. Multicultural Director for Verizon Wireless, Christina Gonzalez, was the presenter for the evening and presented several winners with $50,000 in total cash and prizes for the evening. Special guests included, guest speaker for the evening was Lulu Sobrino, CEO of Lulu’s Desserts in Vernon and Councilwoman Maria Davila from South Gate City Council. Verizon Wireless also received special recognition from Assemblyman Hector de la Torre’s office. It is through the partnership with the South Gate Chamber of Commerce, that it was able to reach out to our business community here in South Gate. Verizon Wireless is a current member of the South Gate Chamber of Commerce and has dedicated themselves to doing what they can to help small business owners during these tough economic times. They have even built a site, www.verizonwirelesssmallbusiness.com where any small business can post their company information on their online directory.
