Incorporated in 1923, South Gate is a blend of residential, commercial, industrial, educational, and cultural worlds located in the heart of southeast Los Angeles County. During the early years after incorporation schools and churches established, a City Hall was built. City's own bus service was established.

Chamber was founded in 1945

When the war was over, the city, industry, business, and the people all looked forward to a period of growth and prosperity. In 1945, 20 businessmen organized a Chamber of Commerce for the purpose of promoting the economic welfare and happiness of the community, through the creation of jobs and increase in commercial development.

Today, South Gate is in constant motion. The city is enhancing its downtown, renewing buildings and public infrastructure, attracting new merchants and customers and promoting a revival of the city's historic commercial corridors.
